Dermal fillers, also called injectable fillers, are among the most popular and least invasive ways to give your skin a youthful boost. What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are the most popular non-surgical option for restoring volume, smoothing wrinkles, and enhancing facial contours. JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® products utilize hyaluronic acid (HA), while RADIESSE® uses calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), both of which are found naturally in your body.

Dermal fillers work by injecting a gel-like substance just beneath the skin’s surface to plump and hydrate the area. Thanks to the unique water-binding properties of dermal fillers, they give your skin a naturally refreshed and youthful appearance, making HA and CaHA two of the safest and most effective ingredients in facial rejuvenation.

What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

As we age, our skin can become drier, fine lines begin to appear, and volume loss occurs, especially in the cheeks, lips, and under the eyes. Dermal fillers help to smooth fine lines, fill deeper wrinkles and folds, and restore lost volume.

JUVÉDERM® ULTRA

Usage: Ideal for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It is also used to enhance the lips.

JUVÉDERM® ULTRA PLUS

Usage: Designed for deeper folds and wrinkles, it is more robust than JUVÉDERM® ULTRA and is suitable for adding volume to areas like the cheeks and chin.

JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC

Usage: Primarily used for lip augmentation and the correction of perioral lines (lines around the mouth). It provides a subtle and natural look.

JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE® XC

Usage: Addresses moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, like nasolabial folds. Provides lasting results for up to 18 months.

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC

Usage: Primarily used to restore volume to the cheeks and chin areas, it can lift and contour the face.

SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM®

SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® is an FDA-approved microdroplet injectable. It’s not a traditional “filler” per se, as it is designed to enhance skin quality rather than adding volume. Instead, it’s a hyaluronic acid-based skin booster designed to improve skin smoothness and hydration, particularly in your cheeks.

SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® is perfect for adults who want to hydrate their skin from within, boost collagen production, and enjoy a refreshed, glowing complexion. The treatment takes 15–30 minutes and involves a series of tiny injections just beneath the skin’s surface, with no downtime required for recovery. You’ll start to see improvements in your skin within a week, and your results will continue to develop, with optimal radiance visible about a month after treatment. The gorgeous, natural-looking results of SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® typically last up to six months.

Restylane®-L

Usage: Ideal for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds. It is also used for lip enhancement.

Restylane® Silk

Usage: Designed specifically for lip augmentation and the smoothing of fine lines around the mouth.

Restylane® Lyft with Lidocaine

Usage: Addresses moderate to severe lower face concerns such as marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and chin wrinkles with a unique, long-lasting calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) formulation.

How Are Dermal Filler Injections Performed?

When you come in for a dermal filler appointment at Capital Center® MedSpa, you’ll start with a consultation with one of our expert injectors. They will listen to your concerns, evaluate your face, and discuss your goals before customizing a treatment plan for you.

Before your treatment, the injection sites are cleaned, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort. Next, your provider will carefully and strategically inject the filler into the targeted areas. They may then gently massage the area to ensure the filler is evenly distributed for a smooth result.

The entire procedure typically takes under an hour, depending on how many areas are being addressed.

What Is Recovery Like After Dermal Fillers?

One of the reasons dermal fillers are so popular is that very little downtime is required for recovery. Most people experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects usually resolve within a few days.

You can immediately return to your daily activities after treatment, with a few exceptions. It is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and exposure to heat for 24 to 48 hours. Also, don’t massage or press on the treated areas unless specifically instructed by your injector.

What Can I Expect From My Dermal Filler Results?

The gel-like substance of dermal fillers provides immediate results, with the full effect visible after a few days to weeks. Your face will look smoother, contoured, and more youthful without looking “overdone.”

The longevity of your dermal filler results depends on which product was used, the area treated, and how quickly your body metabolizes the filler. Maintenance treatments may be recommended once or twice a year, depending on your goals.
