Are you someone with stubborn fat deposits in your arms that don’t respond to diet and exercise? It can be a frustrating problem, but excess upper arm fat can be the result of genetics, aging, or hormonal changes, not a lack of effort on your part. Capital Center® for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers patients arm liposuction to target these trouble spots, sculpting your arms and improving your overall body proportion.
What Is Arm Liposuction?
Arm liposuction is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat from the upper arms, helping to create a slimmer, more toned appearance. It focuses on the area between your shoulder and elbow, where fat tends to accumulate and create “bat wings.” Arm liposuction results in a more contoured, toned upper arm, boosting your confidence and increasing your comfort. In addition, this procedure can be combined with Morpheus8 to improve skin laxity of the arms.
What Are the Benefits of Arm Liposuction?
The benefits of arm liposuction go beyond just aesthetics. Not only does the procedure create a more balanced and attractive arm definition, but it can also improve self-esteem and end discomfort due to chafing.
Some of the benefits of arm liposuction include:
- Permanent removal of stubborn fat in the upper arms
- More defined and toned contours of the bicep and tricep
- Increased confidence
- Improved clothing options and fit
- Minimal scarring
- Lasting results
Arm liposuction can be combined with other body contouring procedures or skin tightening treatments like Morpheus8 to further enhance your results.
Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Liposuction?
Candidates for arm liposuction are nonsmoking, generally healthy adults who are close to their ideal weight but are frustrated with stubborn excess fat in their upper arms. Ideal candidates for arm liposuction include people who:
- Have excess fat on their upper arms that is resistant to diet and exercise
- Have good skin elasticity
- Have realistic expectations for their results
If you have sagging or skin laxity in your upper arms, you may wish to combine liposuction with Morpheus8.
How Is Arm Liposuction Performed?
Arm liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Dr. Armando Retana begins the procedure by making a few small incisions, carefully hidden in inconspicuous areas near your elbow or armpit. He injects the area with tumescent fluid (a saline solution that contains local anesthesia and epinephrine) and uses a thin tube called a cannula to break up and suction out excess fat.
The procedure typically takes no longer than one or two hours, and you can return home the same day. You will wear a compression garment afterward to reduce swelling and help support and shape your new arm contours as you heal.
What Is Recovery Like After Arm Liposuction?
After your arm liposuction surgery, you will experience mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and soreness for the first few days, which can be easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication. You will need to rest and recover for a couple of days, and should be able to return to light activity by three to five days after surgery.
Swelling and bruising will dissipate over a few weeks, and most patients can go back to work about a week after their arm liposuction as long as their job doesn’t require lifting or other strenuous tasks. You will wear a compression garment as you heal to minimize swelling and support your healing arm tissues.
You should refrain from intense exercise and activities for at least four weeks after surgery, or until you’re cleared by Dr. Retana. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions to the letter and attending all follow-up visits can help ensure you heal properly and without complications.
What Can I Expect From My Arm Liposuction Results?
You may see a difference in the shape and definition of your arms immediately after surgery, though there will be some swelling. Your results will refine over the next few weeks and months as swelling continues to subside. Your final arm liposuction results are typically apparent three to six months after surgery, when all swelling has dissipated and your arms have settled into their new, more contoured and sculpted shape.
Arm liposuction results are considered long-lasting. However, while the fat cells removed during arm liposuction are gone for good, maintaining a stable weight is essential to preserving your improved arm definition and proportion.
