Christopher Shim DDS, MD

Dr. Christopher W. Shim is a highly trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon proudly serving the Kingstowne and Northern Virginia communities. Born and raised in Kingstowne, Dr. Shim first discovered his passion for healthcare while volunteering at a local community dental clinic. That early experience shaped his commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2011. Driven by a love for science and service, Dr. Shim continued at VCU’s School of Dentistry, graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2015.

To broaden his clinical expertise, Dr. Shim completed a General Practice Residency from 2015 to 2017, followed by two years in private dental practice. These experiences laid a strong foundation in delivering comprehensive dental care to patients of all backgrounds.

In 2019, Dr. Shim began his rigorous six-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from UNC School of Medicine. His advanced training includes:

  • Jaw (Orthognathic) Surgery
  • Facial Trauma and Reconstruction
  • Cleft Lip and Craniofacial Surgery
  • Benign Pathology
  • Dental Implant Placement
  • Wisdom Teeth Removal and Dentoalveolar Surgery

As chief resident in his final year, Dr. Shim demonstrated leadership and a deep commitment to excellence in surgical care. His dual degrees in dentistry and medicine uniquely qualify him to manage complex cases requiring both surgical and medical expertise.
