Christopher W. Shim DDS, MD
Dr. Christopher W. Shim is a highly trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon proudly serving the DC metropolitan area. Born and raised in Kingstowne, VA, Dr. Shim first discovered his passion for healthcare while volunteering at a local community dental clinic. That early experience shaped his commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care.
Patients appreciate Dr. Shim’s approachable manner, technical skill, and patient-centered approach. Whether performing routine extractions or intricate facial procedures, he prioritizes safety, comfort, and outstanding outcomes.
Education and Training
Dr. Shim earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University. Driven by a love for science and service, Dr. Shim continued at VCU’s School of Dentistry, graduating with his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
To broaden his clinical expertise, Dr. Shim completed a General Practice Residency. He then completed his six-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training General Surgery internship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from UNC School of Medicine.
His advanced training includes:
- Jaw (Orthognathic) Surgery
- Facial Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery
- Treatment of Benign Pathology
- Dental Implant Placement
- Wisdom Teeth Removal and Dentoalveolar Surgery
