To get facial harmony, sculpted, symmetrical, and youthful appearance of the face, it is vital to get Bichectomy or buccal fat removal. Buccal fat removal or buccal lipectomy is a quick, thirty-minute lengthy, aesthetic and anesthesia supported procedure used to remove the buccal fat, also called Bichat’s fat place at lower hollow parts of the face.
What is a Buccal Fat Pad?
Bichat’s fat pad or buccal pad of fat is an encapsulated fat mass in cheeks. This fat pad is present at both sides of the face between the buccinator muscles and various superficial muscles. These muscles may include the masseter, the zygomaticus major, and the zygomaticus minor.
Within the buccal space, the buccal fat pad’s inferior portion is present, which should not be confused with the malar fat, which is present below the cheek’s skin. Also, it is not for jowl fat pads. Buccal fat pads help in chewing and sucking and also help the action of mastication muscles.
The goal of Buccal Fat Pad Removal is to say goodbye to more round cheeks by removing the clumps of fat from the Bichat balls to get a more refine and harmonize face.
Buccal Fat Pad Removal is performed under local anesthesia while the patient is wholly awake or conscious. An incision of 2-4cm is made in the mouth towards the back of the oral cavity. In this process, the fibers are separated at buccinator muscles at the first step until fat is seen. In the next step, a thin casing over the fat is opened by gentle pressure outside and tease out targeted fat, which is then cauterized at its base and finally removed. The oral mucosa is sutured close after replacing the buccal fat pad’s remainder to its anatomical position. The whole procedure takes thirty minutes to complete. Typically, self-dissolving sutures are used.
Before
going into the procedure, the patient should not take alcohol before two days of surgery. Quitting smoking is also advised four weeks before and after the surgery. The patient should not take blood-thinning medications, and eating or drinking six hours before treatment is prohibited.
During
the procedure you should expect that to be given local anesthesia and, incisions have to be made at the inner portion of cheeks for excision of fat. Sutures applied would be self-absorbable. The patient may observe slight discomfort with bruising, and there will also be some changes in facial sensation.
After
Swelling after surgery is one of the most common side effects and it prolongs the time to see the final surgery results. By sleeping at head raised position causes a decreased amount of fluid to accumulate at the incision area. Also, it aids in the fastest healing process by avoiding undue pressure on incisions inside the mouth.
